You've put time, money, and effort into your outdoor kitchen. Or, maybe you're planning a kitchen now. The important thing is that you know how to protect and preserve your outdoor cooking space, here are some tips to help extend the life and enjoyability of your cooking oasis:

• Do a light cleaning and maintenance on the grill every time you cook on it, this will help in delaying times between serious cleaning jobs, but...
  
• Sometimes the grill just has to be deep cleaned, don't be afraid to take it apart a couple times a year and really scrub it all out. Not only with this keep your grill functioning well, it will also give you an opportunity to check all of your hoses and connections, this is important for your safety and the well-being of your grill.
  
• Know how to care for your surfaces, if you have stainless steel remember to clean with soapy water, not harsh chemicals and go with the grain, this will keep it looking shiny and new for years to come. If you have granite or other natural stones, you really won't have to worry much about getting the stains out of your stone, most of the time the elements will do this for you.
  
• If you know you won't be using your outdoor space for a length of time, get the tarp out and cover it up. This will extend the life of your appliances, especially in the case of the unforeseen, you never know when a monsoon or snowstorm (depending on where you live) might hit. The last thing you want to do is watch your investment get ruined by inclement weather.
  
• Finally, as almost any outdoor cook will tell you, enjoy your space, you put time, effort and money into it, the most important thing is to enjoy your hard work. So don't forget to grab a steak, slap it on the grill, sit back and enjoy the great outdoors.
